We thought it was important that we share how En Forma came to be, as the spirit of En Forma is the very thing we want to share and encourage others to find for themselves. En Forma is about finding health and wellness in all its amazing forms.
Last year, like many people, we were severely impacted by the Covid 19 shutdowns. Coming off of what was easily our best year in business to date, 2020 began as a very exciting time for us and our future. Boy, were we blindsided! In mid-February we started seeing event postponements and by the beginning of March all of our clients were cancelling. My wife’s event production business was forced to cease operations and my event rentals business was hot on its heels. Word on the street was that this was going to be a minimum one year ordeal. We were left with no choice but to uproot our family and try to find a more affordable living situation as the Bay Area proved to be too expensive for the current one. We also wanted to show our kids that resilience comes in many forms. That we controlled our happiness and destiny. Fast tracking what was going to be a well thought out and executed six month sabbatical to Mexico with our family, we had to make a hasty and necessary lifestyle change. We turned something that was very dark and hard into an adventure. We consolidated and moved our businesses into a new warehouse, packed up the house, loaded up the car with all our worldly possessions and set out on the road trip of a lifetime.
When we first arrived in Sayulita we had heard a great deal about all the health and wellness activities that were practiced here. I’ve always been more of an outdoors, sports person myself so my instant attraction was to paddle boarding, surfing, swimming, working out and fitness on the beach. My wife, on the other hand, has always had an affinity towards the more spiritual and energy based (not so mainstream) forms of wellness. She instantly immersed herself into the wellness community, signing up for yoga classes, meditations, breath work, amongst others. We were in desperate need of healing. Covid had uprooted our lives and we needed to make sense of it. We needed to find activities and events that would help us on that journey.
Being new to the area, we were solely reliant on searching the internet for any information, calendars, schedules, studios that would give us insight into where and when we could participate in any of these activities. Given that we were also homeschooling two children and trying to save two businesses, it proved to be an incredible amount of work and stress to find ways to unwind and de-stress. A little counterproductive, no?!
We were lucky enough to meet some locals within the first months of being here and from there we were introduced to people who were immersed into the wellness community. We were added to Whatsapp group after Whatsapp group and this Facebook group and that Facebook group and pretty soon our phones were being bombarded by scores of people texting about their upcoming class, or workshop, or ceremony. It was just as stressful having those pesky red dots multiplying like a pandemic virus! That also led to the problem that when you are finally ready to engage in an activity you have to scroll through days and days of texts to find the one that was of interest to you!
This is where our idea was formed. Sayulita needed an easy, productive way to search for local wellness activities, classes, workshops, events, retreats, etc. A way that locals and temporary residents (aka digital nomads or Covid dodgers) could look for classes on a weekly basis to plan out their wellness for both body and mind! A way that domestic and international visitors could plan out their vacation prior to their arrival so as to maximize their enjoyment whilst vacationing in the Sayulita area. There are so many amazing things to do in Sayulita, and so many amazing healers, we wanted to not only show it off but make it easy. There is nothing better than finding an amazing class, or workshop to enhance your Sayulita stay. I mean, on any given day you can find meditation, yoga, breath work, sound baths, massage, spin classes, martial arts….the list goes on and on.
We wanted to share when these activities were happening, and also wanted to share what each one is all about. We kept running into the issue of not even knowing what everything was, or what the benefits were! We were so open minded and wanted to try everything and really needed to educate ourselves. Our goal is to educate people so that they have the tools to find the best activity for them. Did you know that there are over 8 types of yoga offered here in Sayulita alone!
We also felt the need to help the studios and individual practitioners who have very limited resources or knowledge of how to attract clients to their classes. Most classes we have signed up for have been sparsely attended and the class instructor’s talents have not been fully utilized. Relying on text messages or instagram posts will only get you so far…and it’s a lot of work! By giving them a place to showcase their profile, their craft and their upcoming schedule of classes we feel like our site will help maximize the returns on their efforts. We thought that each of the practitioners should be showcased too!
From waking up and walking on the beach and journaling, to taking a yoga or spin class, to dancing the night away. We want to encourage everyone to find that thing that brings happiness and wellness into their lives. Keep an open mind and know that wellness comes in all forms and keep trying the classes and workshops until you find the perfect fit. You can go to our calendar and find the perfect activity.
We want this site to be a reflection of our amazing Sayulita community, so please be sure to add your classes and events! Everyone is on their own journey, let En Forma be a part of it. Our way of finding wellness and healing was jumping in a car and moving to Sayulita, Mexico!
What a great looking family. Glad it’s working out so well for you!!!
Nice! Well done
Thanks Aaron. Are you an Aussie living here in Sayulita? I’m originally from Rockhampton in Queensland.
